Job Shadowing

Exploring Today's Careers

Whether you’re unsure about your career interests or fairly certain you know what you want to do, WLC job shadow experiences are for you!

Students (grades 10 – 12) in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, or Washington counties in Iowa are eligible to apply.

Shadowing a professional at their job during a Career Exploration Day offers a great introduction to specific career fields and allows you to explore a broad scope of careers within that industry, all in one shadow experience. On average, shadows are typically two to four hours in duration.

The fall 2022 job shadow application portal will be open Aug. 1 – Sept. 23, 2022 at 3 p.m. Both in-person and virtual opportunities are available.

Our WLC coordinators are working with local schools, businesses, and Kirkwood Community College to provide appropriate work-based learning support to students and educators. WLC will continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines from Kirkwood Community College, local health departments, our regional school districts and our business partners.

Changes to those guidelines may affect work-based learning activities or programs, potentially causing them to be transitioned to a virtual format or subject to change or cancellation.

If you have further questions check out our job shadows FAQ pages for students and parents, or contact the WLC school liaison for your area.
