Like money and helping people? To put it simply, a person who works in financial services helps people achieve their dreams. If this sounds appealing to you, consider the Business Administration: Financial Services program.

You’ll learn from passionate faculty who share their knowledge of managing, lending, saving, insuring and investing money—giving you the knowledge to achieve success in the world of financial services.

The Financial Services program is a two-year A.A.S. degree designed for students seeking careers with financial institutions and for those already in financial institutions wishing to attain advanced positions. This program provides an internship opportunity to give students real-world experience.

Graduates of the financial services program will be able to:

  • Evaluate career options in business as a basis for making appropriate career choices.
  • Utilize critical thinking to solve problems and make decisions in business situations.
  • Communicate information effectively using a variety of formats for diverse audiences.
  • Analyze the ethical and legal implications of business decisions within the global business environment.
  • Describe personal financial and investment concepts related to credit, investments, and insurance.
  • Utilize superior customer service and sales skills in building positive, long-term client relationships.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the monetary and banking issues that are pervasive in all aspects of financial services.

BPA/FBLA

Financial Services students are encouraged to join the Kirkwood chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) and/or Future Business Leaders of America, INC. (FBLA).

With 45,000 members in more than 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico, as well as an international presence in China, Haiti and Peru, BPA has the ability to enhance student participation in professional, civic, service and social endeavors.

FBLA is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization in the world, helping more than 230,000 members prepare for careers in business each year.

BPA and FBLA are two of eight recognized members of the National Coordinating Council for Career and Technical Student Organizations (NCC-CTSO). CTSOs are co-curricular groups that help students in career and technical education programs further their knowledge and skills by participating in activities, events, and competitions.
