Ready for a Business Career?

The Business Administration program prepares students for careers in diverse areas of business and is based on a strong foundation of business and general education courses.

Upon completion of the program, students may choose to transfer to the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, the Mount Mercy University College of Business, the Stead Department of Business Administration and Economics at Coe College, and the Wilson College of Business at the University of Northern Iowa, or go directly into the workforce with a marketable credential. 

How to Apply Plan of Study

Graduates of the Business Administration program will be able to:

  1. Evaluate career options in business as a basis for making appropriate career choices.
  2. Utilize critical thinking to solve problems and make decisions in business situations.
  3. Communicate information effectively using a variety of formats for diverse audiences.
  4. Analyze the ethical and legal implications of business decisions within the global business environment.
  5. Investigate current trends in management to include human resources, project management, and entrepreneurship.
  6. Evaluate the culture of a business in relation to the management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
  7. Explain the impact of internationalization on the various functional areas of management including diversity in the workplace
  8. Solve management related problems individually and in a team environment.

Students are encouraged to join the Kirkwood chapter of Future Business Leaders of America, INC. (FBLA), the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization in the world, helping more than 230,000 members prepare for careers in business each year.

FBLA is a recognized member of the National Coordinating Council for Career and Technical Student Organizations (NCC-CTSO). CTSOs are co-curricular groups that help students in career and technical education programs further their knowledge and skills by participating in activities, events, and competitions.
