Students are required to complete a Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) reading and listening test prior to being registered for class. Students will then take progress tests between 40 and 70 hours of study and/or at the end of every session, whichever comes first. Students' test scores and teacher recommendations are considered when moving students up to the next level. Students are not allowed to move up in the middle of a session. |
This varies by student and may be influenced by skill level, attendance, ability to practice English outside of class, and prior education experience. Some students move quickly through the class levels, while other students spend a year or longer in the same class level. Once students are in High Intermediate and/or Advanced level ELL classes, we work closely with students to understand their goals and help them transition to their next steps.
