Intensive Radiologic Diagnostics Education

The Diagnostic Assistant degree is designed for Radiologic Technology students in partnership with the Mercy/St. Luke’s School of Radiologic Technology.

The two-year radiologic technology technical program is taught through Mercy/St. Luke’s School of Radiologic Technology. The program begins each summer and has a separate application process. There are prerequisite college courses required prior to this application.

You'll complete your prerequisite courses at Kirkwood to become eligible to apply for the Mercy/St. Luke's School of Radiologic Technology program. After you complete a portion of the program, you'll transfer those credits back to Kirkwood to receive your degree.

Additional Program Requirements

To get into the joint venture of the Diagnostic Assistant program at Kirkwood Community College and the Radiologic Technology program at Mercy/St. Luke's School of Radiological Technology, you must meet the following standards. These steps/requirements are in addition to Kirkwood's steps to become a student.

  • Attend Program Conference (Program conference must be within one year of application date to hospital.)
  • Apply to program
  • Complete prerequisite courses with a minimum C grade
    • Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credit)
    • Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credit)
    • Program specific electives (4 credit)
    • Humanities Elective (3 credit)
    • Introduction to Psychology (3 credit)
    • Composition I (3 credit)
    • Fundamentals of Oral Communication (3 credit)
    • Microcomputer Literacy (1 credit)
    • Intermediate Algebra (4 credit)
    • Medical Terminology (4 credit)
  • Complete a Job Shadow
  • Have placement test scores or course equivalents on file with Allied Health office

If college level placement is not met, students are recommended to meet with an advisor. Kirkwood and Diagnostic Assistant admissions policies and procedures are subject to change at anytime. After all admissions criteria is met, students are eligble to apply for the hospital-based program.
