You’ve served your country. Now let us serve you. These scholarships can help veterans and current members of the military offset the costs of attending Kirkwood and make the benefits you've earned go even further! 

Scholarship opportunities from Kirkwood are available for veterans of all branches of the military. We also have opportunities for military spouses and other dependents and family members.

Scholarships

 

The Purple Heart Scholarship

Must be a U.S. veteran, or spouse or child of a veteran who earned the Purple Heart, or who experienced significant difficulty after serving. Must have a minimum 2.75 grade point average.

Kirkwood Veterans Scholarship

Must be in the top 10 percent academically of the veterans who attend Kirkwood. Must demonstrate financial need.

VFW Auxiliary Post 788 Scholarship

Must be a United States veteran who has served active duty in a combat zone. Must have a DD214 on file with Kirkwood’s Veteran Affairs. Must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Must demonstrate financial need.

Vets for Vets Scholarship

Established by the Veteran’s Committee of Cedar Rapids at General Mills. Preference to those who have a DD214 on file with Kirkwood and an honorable discharge. Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Must demonstrate financial need.

American Legion of Iowa Foundation

Must be a U.S. veteran, spouse of or dependent child of a U.S. veteran. Must demonstrate financial need.

John D. Griffin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Must demonstrate financial need.

Paul Glenn Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Preference to those who are struggling with physical and/or emotional difficulties.

M.J. and Mark John Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Preference given to a returning adult student. Must have served in the military or National Guard. Must demonstrate financial need.

This is a great place to find up-to-date veteran information and talk with other military-connected students.

Stop by and find your second home here at Kirkwood. The Lounge is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. Campus closed on Fridays during the summer.
