An Academic Coach is here to support a student’s overall academic success. We are here to intentionally work together in partnership with students to help each individual build on and strengthen their academic performance.
Academic Coaching is here to help you build your skills so you can feel more prepared and make better progress towards your goals. Students who engage in academic coaching also share the following benefits:
Having a coach to support you as you work to make progress can provide significant benefits to helping you overcome any barriers to your success, connect to appropriate resources quicker, and stick with the positive changes you are making!
Coaching is a process where we work to support you in identifying your goals to work towards and enact positive change. During a session, the student sets the goals and coach acts as a guide to help productively work towards that.
You can choose to meet in-person, virtually, or check in with a phone call. Together we’ll work through three basic stages: awareness, action, and accountability.
We’ll make sure you as a student are fully aware of your situation, options, and resources/strategies available. Next, we’ll brainstorm options together and figure out a plan for action and next steps, making sure you’re fully equipped to take those next steps. The final important step is helping you to make sure you have appropriate follow-through and support in place to make sure you have a plan to stay accountable to your goals.
Most students benefit from ongoing sessions for continued support and growth, which is set up based individually on your interest and need. Regular check-ins can again be in-person, by phone, or through written communication.
