Medical assistants are multi-skilled health professionals specifically educated to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative and clinical duties.

  • Practicum in an ambulatory care clinic

This program may be taken on a part-time basis. After earning a Medical Assisting diploma, graduates are eligible to take the nationally-recognized Certified Medical Assistant exam. Most employers require certification within one year of graduation.

Graduates of the Medical Assisting program will be able to:

  • Perform within the legal and ethical standards of the medical assisting profession.
  • Prepare and provide a variety of instruction within the healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication with patients and medical professionals.
  • Exhibit professionalism in the workplace.

Our mission is to provide competent entry-level medical assistants who in turn provide exceptional quality healthcare under the supervision of their licensed employer.  Certification and recertification will promote our graduates to be lifelong learners.

Kirkwood offers more than $3 million in scholarships for students each year, and there are many specifically for students enrolled in health programs. Students in some programs may also qualify for the tuition-free Kibbie Grant.
