“Working for minimum wage and supporting two kids was hard. I was tired of working from paycheck to paycheck. I knew that going back to school was the answer, but I didn’t want any more debt. One of my friends had a similar situation and told me about KPACE. Shortly after meeting with Kim, my fears were put to rest. She helped with the school and financial assistance applications. I qualified for a grant, which meant I didn’t have to pay for school. I was also given an allowance for school supplies, gas money and even childcare. Kim helped me figure out what career path to follow based on my interests. She was with me every step of the way. Her guidance and support pulled me through. I recently received my associate degree in Health Information Technology. I’m now working for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics! I’m making a good living, receiving benefits like healthcare insurance and a retirement plan. I can’t believe that my hard work paid off. My family is so proud of me. I am too.”
