Put the Kirkwood for Kids Camp Summer Camp on your calendar for June 17 – 20! Camp has been revamped and reimagined with fun, engaging classes you won't want to miss! Students will build lasting friendships in their cohort groups and extended classroom times allow for thorough investigation of each topic. Bus transportation will be provided with convenient pick-up and drop-off locations throughout the county for those who need it. Locations include: Stewart Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Waco, Mid-Prairie East Elementary (Kalona), Lone Tree, and Brighton. We also have a separate camp experience designed for middle school students called Camp Exploration at Kirkwood. Check it out! Camp Details and Registration Information Below. Our cooking adventure is designed to introduce your little ones to the exciting world of cooking through hands-on experiences, creative recipes, and a whole lot of fun! Colorful Creations and Art Adventures This art camp will offer a creative and supportive environment where kids can express themselves freely through art. 1st & 2nd Grade Students attend two different 90-minute classes each day for a total of eight classes throughout the week exploring a wide range of topics. From opening ceremony to closing ceremony, participate in various activities inspired by the Summer Olympic theme. Wilderness Whiz Kids: Outdoor Expedition Discover the secrets of the wild! We will provide a safe, educational, and unforgettable outdoor experience for young adventurers. Our mission is to instill a love for nature, develop essential survival skills, and nurture a lifelong appreciation for the environment in a fun and supportive camp environment. Expressive Explorers: Art and Creativity Camp Prepare for a journey into the world of art, where young minds will unleash their creativity, experiment with various mediums, and embark on exciting artistic adventures. Campers will experience a vibrant and supportive environment for artistic expression. FlavorQuest Get ready to roll up your sleeves and discover the science of taste! This hands-on cooking adventure will use all 5 of your senses to elevate your while learning basic nutritional concepts. We will teach young chefs the importance of balanced ingredients, while turning ordinary food into extraordinary edible creations. Feathers, Fur, and Fins: The Ultimate Animal Care Experience Attention all animal allies! Animals bring us so much joy, but they are a big responsibility. Have you ever wondered why dogs get the “zoomies” after a bath, or why a hamster likes to fill their cheeks full of food? What do you need to know before you get a pony? Join local pet experts as we learn about animals and their needs in this ultimate care experience. Slime Spectacular Squish, stretch and explore the world of slime! Come with us on a gooey adventure, where hands-on science meets goopy excitement, as you take common ingredients and create your very own slime concoctions! Our Summer Olympics Camp is designed to introduce 3rd through 5th graders to a variety of sports, foster a love for physical activity, and encourage cooperation. Space Odyssey Calling all astronauts! Blast off on a cosmic journey during our Space Odyssey! Space enthusiasts will discover the wonders of our universe through hands-on activities, interactive learning and out-of-this-world adventures. This experience is designed to spark curiosity, ignite imaginations, and foster a love of space exploration. Brushstrokes of Community Join us as we explore downtown Washington’s vibrant colors, imaginative strokes and artistic history. Take a tour of the beauty in this community, while celebrating various artforms. Campers will then participate in creating their very own temporary mural at Kirkwood's Washington Regional Center. Green Guardians: Local Environmental Conservation Campers will embark on an outdoor adventure to Washington County’s Kewash nature Trail while learning about making eco-friendly choices and environmental stewardship. They will explore local eco-systems and observe flora and fauna, understanding the delicate balance of our environment through hands-on projects. Here’s to a sustainable future! Taste and Tradition: Food and Culture Exploration Every dish has a story! Come with us on a delicious journey around the world where explorers will discover how food serves as cultural expression, while connecting people and preserving traditions. You will discover unique flavors and ingredients, while blending creativity with cuisine. Discover Digital Design Embrace the tech-savvy side of creativity. Learn skills that will make you a digital design rock star and Photoshop pro! Lean how to use digital tools to create cool graphics, illustrations, and enhance photos with special effects. Young Innovators: Building Dreams, Engineering Futures (2 day offering) Every architectural marvel started with a young innovator, on a journey filled with discovery and creativity, with the goal of building a better world. Camp Exploration at Kirkwood: Middle School Camp Students should register for the camp experience of their current grade level of the 2023-2024 academic year. Monday, July 15 – Wednesday, July 17, 2024 9 a.m. – noon
This summer camp's offerings include a separate experience for middle school students, designed with even more career exploration in mind. Students will choose from one of the following five class offerings. Tuition: $95 (materials and fees included) Gearhead Garage Get ready to REV IT UP! Independence and the open road are right around the corner! Vehicle maintenance is part of the responsibility of being behind the wheel. In Kirkwood’s state-of-the-art auto lab, learn how to provide routine car maintenance, and the basics of auto repair or replacing damaged parts. With the hands-on knowledge that you gain from our automotive professionals, you will be one step closer to the freedom that driving gives!
Metal Mavericks Welding keeps our word together! Join our Industry Professional Instructors, to learn to cut and weld steel, using a plasma cutter, wire welder and cutting torch. You will learn to weld with confidence in a controlled and supervised setting. Discover why there is such a high demand for qualified welders. No prior experience is necessary and proper safety will be covered. Leather shoes and long pants are required. Projects will vary.
Design Discovery: An Interior Design Experience This vibrant experience is tailored for those who are passionate about transforming spaces and exploring the exciting world of interior design! From mood boards to color theory, this camp will help develop your design skills, learning from local professionals how to make choices that will achieve your desired look and feel in a space.
