WLC Director Selected for Iowa Clearinghouse Advisory Board
Laurie Worden, director of Workplace Learning Connection, was recently selected as a member of the new Iowa Clearinghouse Work-Based Learning Advisory Board.
“I am honored to serve as a representative on this advisory board for the clearinghouse. I will aim to listen, learn and hopefully help lead the work with an eastern Iowa perspective and as a representative from an experienced regional intermediary,” shares Worden.
Gov. Kim Reynolds announced the members of the new Iowa Clearinghouse for Work-Based Learning
Advisory board on Monday, August 27.
The governor established the virtual clearinghouse by Executive Order No. 1 to expand high-quality, real-world work-based learning experiences for K-12 students. This is in keeping with the Future Ready Iowa goal of 70 percent of our workforce having education or training by 2025. The clearinghouse will go live by July 1, 2019.
Iowa Education Director Ryan Wise and Iowa Workforce Development Director Beth Townsend will lead the clearinghouse advisory board, which includes representatives of business and industry, education, nonprofits, elected leaders, and students.
WLC Collaboration Continues with ICR Future Initiative
WLC continues its collaborative role in advancing work-based learning within the ICR Iowa Future career-connected learning initiative.
The ICR Future
Coalition includes over 50 educational partners, nonprofits, industry representatives, and educators working together to increase career-connected learning in the region. Strategy sessions over the summer were held to develop metrics and strategies in five key areas: expanding career exploration efforts, increase work-based learning for students and teachers, increase teaching of 21st century skills and problem-based learning, assist school districts with pathway templates for program of studies, and expand computer science education. The ICR Future Career Hub website is currently being developed to be a resource for students, parents, educators, and businesses to provide information on career pathways, critical careers in our region, and all of the regional resources in the area of career-connected learning.
