SLC members are involved in a variety of activities on campus. Students don’t participate in every event, but will find the events and activities that interest them and lead the charge in those areas. Here are a few of the things we do each year:
Help plan and promote events from live music and bingo over lunch or evening events including comedians, movie nights, or ticket giveaways at the RoughRiders hockey or Kernels baseball games.
Community service events including our fall food drive (1,380 pounds donated last year), our spring toilet paper drive (2,100 rolls donated last year), or other activities including our Adopt-A-Highway, blood drives, or volunteer activities.
We also help the college each year by selecting an “Honorary Student Award” recipient (the top employee award on campus – given by YOU, the students of Kirkwood). At the end of each academic year, we put on Kirkwood’s Annual Awards Banquet, a night that recognizes our top student leaders, clubs & organizations, student athletes, advisors, and more.
SLC members can get involved in as much or as little as they would like – giving you the flexibility to be involved as much or little as you’d like to be based on your interest in specific events or activities.
In addition to the stuff we do on campus, check out the Leadership Opportunities page on some of the retreat and travel benefits of being an SLC member. Who knows, maybe you'll be the next Commencement Speaker at Kirkwood's graduation (A student often chosen from Student Leadership Council).
