Make plans to attend Orientation at the location where you'll take the majority of your classes. Be sure to complete the Before Orientation Checklist in advance of your orientation date.

Cedar Rapids - Main Campus

Orientation includes:

  • Information about student services, student life, and other campus resources
  • A meeting with your advisor to enroll in first semester courses
  • Sessions for parents or guests

Choose a morning or afternoon option based on what works better in your schedule.

Morning Orientation Sessions
Check-in between 8:30 and 9 a.m. and the day will conclude at approximately 1 p.m.

Afternoon Orientation Sessions
Check-in between 12:30 and 1 p.m. and the day will conclude at approximately 5 p.m.

Use the south entrance to campus and park in the Iowa Hall/Student Center parking lots. Enter the Student Center and look for orientation signage to guide you to the right spot.

Planning to stay in town for your visit to Cedar Rapids? Stay close to campus! You can get the orientation rate at The Hotel at Kirkwood, our student-run hotel. Kirkwood hotel rooms offer:

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows in all rooms
  • 50-inch TVs in all rooms
  • Marble restrooms
  • Close proximity to The Class Act, our renowned student-managed fine dining establishment.
  • Your photo ID
  • Your Kirkwood identification number (k-number)
  • Copies of grade reports or transcripts for any college courses you have completed

Iowa City

Orientation includes:

  • Information about student services, student life, and other campus services and resources available in Iowa City
  • A meeting with your advisor to enroll in your first-semester courses
  • Sessions for parents or guests

Afternoon Orientation Sessions
Check-in and Student Resource Fair between 12:30 p.m.– 1 p.m. and the day will conclude at approximately 4:30 p.m. Student attendance is required for the entirety of the orientation program.

Parking is available adjacent to the main campus building at 1816 Lower Muscatine Road in Iowa City.

Check in at the 1st floor lobby of the Iowa City Credit Center Building.
