Job Shadowing

Exploring Today's Careers

Whether you’re unsure about your career interests or fairly certain you know what you want to do, WLC job shadow experiences are for you!

Who's Eligible? Students (grades 10 – 12) in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, or Washington counties in Iowa are eligible to apply.

The next opportunity to apply for a job shadow will be in August 2024. Students may apply for one job shadow per portal opening (three per year), even if they are still awaiting placement from prior applications.

On average, shadows are typically two to four hours in duration. Apply early as opportunities are limited! Please check with your school for your job shadow deadline. Transportation, if required, is the student's responsibility.

Please note: Depending on host/industry availability, some shadows applied for in the fall, may not be placed until spring.

WLC coordinators work with local schools and businesses to provide appropriate work-based learning support to students and educators. Please be aware changes in weather, public health policy and host availability can impact work-based learning activities or programs, potentially causing them to be cancelled, rescheduled or transitioned to a virtual format. Communication will always be sent accordingly to keep students and parents aware of any changes.
