Healthiest State Walk
Date/Time: Oct. 7
Location: Cedar Rapids Main Campus
Walk Registration: Register here
Description: Iowans across the state have shown their support for the Healthiest State Initiative by the thousands. By the hundreds of thousands, actually – each year for the past three years, nearly 300,000 Iowans have participated in 1-kilometer walks to show that we’re ready for a healthier Iowa. As we approach our fourth year, we need your help to keep the momentum going and make this year’s walk the biggest one yet. Be part of the movement by walking one kilometer (.62 miles or roughly 12 minutes) on October 7.
While progress has been made, there’s still work to do. Working with a team of experts, the Healthiest State Initiative has identified five priority areas most likely to improve the state’s ranking. The Focus Five priorities include:
Decrease the number of Iowans who smoke,
Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables to five or more servings daily at least four days a week,
Increase the number of Iowans who are learning or doing something interesting every day,
Increase the number of Iowans who have visited the dentist in the last 12 months, and
Increase the number of working Iowans who feel their boss treats them like a partner at work.
The Healthiest State Initiative is a privately led, public effort that engages Iowans and their communities throughout the state. It involves individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, not-for-profits and the public sector in a broad-based community-focused effort. Health Screening/Annual Physical Incentive Plan
Description: Many of us only visit our doctor when we have an immediate health concern or injury. The purpose of performing wellness health screenings is to take the time to evaluate overall health. In addition, health screenings are very important to preventive medical care.
We encourage all of our employees to continue yearly check-ups with your own personal physician. Our incentive plan is offered to those full-time employees that participate in the health screenings by following up with a primary care physician to review health screening results, or our full-time employees may go directly to their primary care physician for a yearly check up and be eligible for the wellness incentive.
Steps for the health screening incentive plan through the Kirkwood wellness program:
- Benefit eligible employees (full-time)
- Participate in the on-site Kirkwood Wellness health screening (offered at the main campus and Iowa City campus) or complete a comparable health screening with your primary care physician.
- Submit your health screening results to your primary care physician for a follow-up, or take directly to your primary care physician at the time of your yearly check up.
- After your primary care physician has reviewed your results or after your yearly check up they will sign off on the “physician’s review form”.
- Submit the signed “physicians’ review form” to Wellness Coordinator, Jill Williams, at Johnson Hall and receive your health screening incentive gift card: $20 gift card to Subway, Hy-Vee or Eagle Cash. Benefit eligible employees are entitled to obtain one $20 gift card per fiscal year.
