Tech Scouts

A Faculty Resource

Follow Along

Kirkwood faculty are invited to learn more about Tech Scouts by following our blog. There, you'll be able to read about innovative and useful technologies that support student learning and faculty work. Not as tech-savvy as you'd like to be? The Tech Scouts blog is also a great resource for anyone with technology-related questions.

Interested in Becoming a Tech Scout?

The mission of the Tech Scouts team is to scan the techno-sphere to:

  • Research and identify cutting-edge learning technologies and innovative applications of existing technologies that improve and enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Share these findings with our colleagues.

Tech Scout Expectations

  • The Tech Scouts will report to the Learning Technology Advisory Committee. This committee may also direct research assignments toward the Tech Scouts. Tech Scouts will regularly update the Committee on projects they have been working on, software/hardware they have been beta testing, or findings they have gathered from research. Scouts may attend any meetings of the Committee.
  • Scouts are expected to regularly participate in instructive sessions designed to share and explore technology for teaching and learning. Recent examples include a group presentation at Collaborative Learning Days, and monthly Tech Scout Live Events (over Zoom).
  • Regular attendance is required at Tech Scouts meetings. Scouts are also members of LTAC and encouraged to attend those meetings. Tech Scouts meetings are generally scheduled at least six times during the regular school year. For the convenience of members, meetings will be made available through Zoom, the Weblive system, or conference calls. Meeting times are dictated by members' schedules.
  • In order to receive the $300 stipend, Tech Scouts will submit a written report at the end of the spring semester each year summarizing activities and research findings to Jennifer Bradley, vice president of instruction. Copies of the report should also be sent to Phil Brown.
