The value of being a participant in the SSS project at Kirkwood:
|
Each student is assigned a counselor who works with you one-on-one. Helping you be successful in the classroom is our primary focus with students, but we are also concerned about your whole college experience. We care about your grades, financial aid situation, being engaged in college activities and your career goals. The counselors can also refer you to other campus resources which will help meet your needs. On a campus this large it’s important to have someone who gives you individual attention and helps you navigate your pathway to college success.
During the initial meeting, the SSS counselor will work with you to determine your approach to academics and together you will create an Academic Success Plan. This plan may include tips on how you can effectively manage your time, develop effective study skills, understand your individual learning style and how best to use resources available on campus. As a student accepted into the SSS program, you can continue receiving services every semester you are at Kirkwood. Your Academic Success Plan will be reviewed each semester and taylored to the class you are taking. There is no cost for the SSS services. |
