CVCSC is a partnership among Alliant Energy, American Profol, Cargill Corn Milling, International Paper (Cedar River Mill), the City of Cedar Rapids Water Department, Diamond V Mills, Genencor International, the City of Iowa City Water Department, Kraft Foods, Monsanto, Quality Chef, Rockwell Collins, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and Kirkwood as well as 170 other companies throughout eastern Iowa.

Before performing work in any of the partners’ facilities, a contract employee may be required to successfully complete the OSHA Basic Safety Awareness course in addition to the site-specific course for the facility in which they will be working. Upon satisfactory completion, the contract employee will be issued an approved photo ID badge (valid for one year unless otherwise noted) that must be presented anytime he or she enters a participating facility’s gate.

Pre-Registration Requests

**Pre-registration is required for all centers and all courses**

  • To ensure a seat, pre-register by the Friday before your class by contacting Jessica Lippert at (319) 398-5899 Extension 5234. Ms. Lippert will schedule all tests conducted through one of Kirkwood Community College’s three testing facilities – 1) Community Training & Response Center – CTRC (Main Campus/Cedar Rapids), 2) Kirkwood Training & Outreach Services Center – KTOS (Marion), or 3) Iowa City Learning Center (Iowa City). The same level of quality training and technical support is available through either of the computer based testing facilities. However, all official record keeping and test result information will be maintained by the CTRC location. All billing and other customer service support will also be supplied through the CTRC via Jessica Lippert.

Cedar Rapids or Marion - Community Training and Response Center or KTOS Center

  • Walk-ins will only be accommodated as space and time permits. Class sizes and computer lab space is limited. The contract employee will need to present a valid picture ID on the day of the class (or when appearing for any site-specific course at any other time) in order to take the training. Iowa City Training Center

  • Walk-ins will only be accommodated as space and time permits. Class sizes and computer lab space is limited. Walk-in appointments can be accepted between 9 AM – 2 PM Monday - Thursday. The contract employee will need to present a valid picture ID on the day of the class (or when appearing for any site-specific course at any other time) in order to take the training. At this location, badge processing can only be offered to City of Iowa City Water Department contractors and University of Iowa Hospital contractors. Fees
The matter of fees and costs related to this contractor safety training/orientation process in the Cedar Valley Contractors Safety Council is between the contractor or the contractor employee and the Training Center. Fees are as follows:

  • 4-hour OSHA Basic Safety Awareness: $60 per person
  • Site-Specific Orientation: $30 per person
    Note: $30 per person applies to each site-specific course taken.
  • Replacement cards: $5 per person

TRAINING CENTER RULES
All students must read and understand the following rules. The Training Center is considered an extension of the work place and policy violations will not be tolerated.

  • English Language
    Training Center classes are offered in English only. Students must pass a test in English. Interpreters or "helpers" are allowed if approved with Training Center staff.
  • Cheating or Falsifying
    Anyone falsifying identification or caught cheating will be barred for one year. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • ID Required
    Students and the company or union hall registering them must give the student's Social Security number. The student must also present a valid, legible, government issued, good condition ID that contains a recent, identifiable photograph. Acceptable forms of identification are state drivers license, state ID card, U.S. passport, current foreign passport, green card, U.S. military or government photo ID.
  • Cleanliness
    Attendees' clothing and shoes must be free of dirt, mud, chemicals, dust, grease - attendees will be asked to wash, change, or cover-up to avoid damage to the Training Center or cross contamination of other attendees.
  • Class Starting Time
    Registration begins 30 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. Students not registered and in their seats at the start time will be turned away. The Cedar Rapids CTRC location officially opens for business at 7:30 AM M-F.
  • Personal Behavior
    Foul, abusive, or inappropriate language; attendees suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol; and weapons will not be tolerated. Students ejected from the Training Center for personal behavior may register for future classes consistence with the rules of the Training Center. However, second-time offenders shall be permanently banned from future Training Center programs.
  • Harassment
    No one will be permitted to harass others. Everyone has the responsibility to avoid action, implied or explicit, that may suggest harassment in any form.
  • Tobacco
    The use of tobacco (including smokeless tobacco) is PROHIBITED on campus in compliance with the state’s Smoke Free Air Act effective July 1, 2008.
  • Cell Phones
    Radios, cell phones, and pagers MUST be off during classes as they disrupt other’s learning. If students need to be reached, they may be called at the Training Center.
  • Unexcused Absence
    If a student leaves a class prior to completion, she/he must notify the Training Center of departure. Without a legitimate excuse, companies will be charged the full price for the student registration.
  • Badges
    Students are given a photo ID as proof of a passing score. A failing score means that the Training Center cannot confirm minimum safety knowledge. Individual host companies decide whether a person who fails the class will be admitted to their facility.
  • Authorization to Bill
    All billing matters should be forwarded by fax or mail to Jessica Lippert for processing.
