Landscape graduates can become landscape designers for private homes or corporate campuses, garden center or greenhouse managers or salespersons, commercial grounds foremen or work in nursery production.
During the spring or summer between your first and second year, you'll complete a six-week internship at a lawn and garden center, nursery, park, landscaping company or greenhouse. An internship gives you hands-on experience and may lead to a permanent position after graduation. Plus, you'll make some great industry contacts. Many students return to their hometowns to complete their internships. If you need help finding an internship site, you can talk with local, state and regional employers during our on-campus job fair held each February.
Kirkwood graduates with an associate degree in Landscape Construction and Design can transfer to Iowa State University or Upper Iowa University and complete a bachelor's degree in a horticulture-related field. A four-year degree will broaden your knowledge and career opportunities.
