1. Navigation Order: In website manager, you have the ability to change the order of the links in the left side navigation menu. It used to be that you would have to do it from the pages section, but now WM has made it easier by adding a new link on the main WM page. And in this new section, you can also select different parent pages and change the navigation order of their child pages, giving you total control over what and how links show up in the left navigation menu.

  1. Navigation Appearance: The navigation menu can now also be organized more effectively for your visitors’ interest. With the new Child Navigation drop down menu located under the Account Info link on the main WM page, you can have your Child navigation links Indented whenever the user clicks on the Parent page or you can even have the Child links hidden. You may also have them appear right on the Body of the page itself by selecting Middle. What’s more, the Child page links will ONLY appear when you select the Parent page, making navigation far more efficient and intuitive.

  1. Related Websites: The Related Websites section used to be limited to appearing only on the main page and under its own Related Websites navigation menu just under the main navigation menu. Now the Related Websites section is much more flexible. You can add related websites to your main navigation menu and they will only appear in that menu for that particular parent page. For example: Your main page can have the related website www.cnn.com either in its own related website section just under the main navigation menu or as a part of the main navigation menu, and that link will not appear on any other page of your site. Your navigation menu can now be simply edited and entirely customized to your liking.

  1. Folders: For administrative purposes only. One issue with the old version of WM was its somewhat tedious navigation layout. In the new version of WM, everything can be streamlined, organized, and customized to your liking. With the new Folders feature under the Pages link, you can simply add a folder, and then put certain pages of your site into that folder for better organization. Click the link in the upper right hand corner in the Pages section, add a folder by naming it, click save, and then for any page that you want in the folder, simply navigate to that page, select the folder you want it to go into in the Folder drop down box, and you’re done. Now whenever you go to the Pages section, when you select the Folder drop down box and the folder you want, every page that folder contains will show up in your Pages and nothing else.

  1. Search: For administrative purposes only. Searching is now far more improved. Is your site too large to navigate quickly looking for a specific bit of information? Now you can search by selecting the drop down menu that contains the following options: Link Text, Title, Contents, and Page ID. For example: select Contents if you know exactly what bit of information you want to edit, type in a few keywords and then click search.

  1. Improved Staff Page: The new staff page now allows you to change the ranking of staff members so that certain members appear above or below others. So now you can have your head of department appear as the first staff member on the page. You can also change the name of the Staff Members page so that your navigation menu will reflect any name for your staff members link that you desire, and you can choose whether the link appears in the navigation menu or not. Plus, if you would rather just put your staff members in alphabetical order, just click the link on the Staff Members page and let WM do it for you.

  1. New Form Data Viewer: For administrative purposes only. One of the nicest features added to WM is the improved Form Data viewer. Now all your form data is more organized and easier to find. You can even search in certain data groups and for individual or even multiple data sets that have been submitted. Do you want to see if a certain person has registered for an upcoming event? Simply select the data group and search for them.

  1. Administrative Feature: For administrative purposes only. Are you an administrator of more than one site? Now you can change accounts quickly by simply clicking the Change Account link on the lower right of the main WM page.

  1. Smarty Variables: Possibly the most advanced feature added to WM are the Smarty Variables. Be warned, these are still a work in progress and may be a bit advanced for beginning WM users. However, using Smarty Variables effectively can allow you to edit your page nearly any way you would like without ever touching a single bit of HTML. Simply copy and paste the variable (e.g. ) anywhere you would like that information to go on your page, and the data will appear exactly as described. Again, it is a work in progress, so certain items may or may not work. It is recommended that you experiment only with Smarty Variables for the time being until they are completed.

  1. Improved Site Traffic: On the main WM page, you can view your site’s traffic, which means every computer that has visited a page can now be tracked and the number of times they have visited, how many unique visits you’ve had, even what browser they used to visit your page, among many other features. And now you can download an excel spreadsheet that will list this information by category and the link is listed right next to the page of interest. A rundown of each of the categories are listed below:

·        Department ID: Department ID is the ID number of your site’s department. Every unique website in Kirkwood’s overall site has a unique Department ID.

·        Page ID: Page ID is the ID number of the current page you are looking at. Each page on your website has a unique Page ID.

·        IP Address: An IP address is a unique ID number given to each and every computer on the internet. This category lists the unique IP address of each computer that has visited the particular page stats you are viewing.

·        Session: Session is the Session ID number of the user visiting that page at that particular time. Generally, Session ID numbers are for administrative purposes only.

·        Browser and Operating System: This category lists that user’s browser and even the operating system they used to access your website. Helpful for analyzing the types of users that are visiting your page and any errors that may be caused using anything other than Windows and Internet Explorer.

·        Request:

·        Query String:

·        Referrer Page: If you want an idea of where your users are coming from and how they might’ve found your website, the Referrer category will tell you. For example, if someone searched for specific keywords using Google and Google listed your site in response, the Referrer category will reflect the link that user clicked to get to your site. This is especially helpful for finding out how users are trying to get information about your site and what you can do to improve their chances of finding that information about it.

·        Host: Host simply lists the where your site is located. For most, the host site will be www.kirkwood.edu.

·        Date/Time: The date and time of each unique visit is listed in this category. Helpful for troubleshooting site problems, finding the busiest time of day for your site, and when certain users are having problems.
