Most Veterinary Technician graduates find work in small, mixed or large animal practices. Other opportunities exist in humane societies, animal shelters, zoos, specialty veterinary practices, pet shops, biological research labs, animal control agencies, veterinary teaching hospitals, and state and federal agencies.
As a Vet Tech student, you'll complete a 300-hour internship at a veterinary hospital or research institute during the summer between your first and second year. During your internship, you will apply your lab and classroom skills to an actual work setting. Plus, you'll make some great industry contacts and may be offered a full-time position after graduation. Our instructors will help you find an internship site, whether you want to stay in Iowa or work out of state.
