Pat is the Office Coordinator in Learning Services.  She works directly with all the faculty and staff in Learning Services, including the Test Center, tutoring department, Skill Center, VITAL program, and also assists with Cedar Employment Opportunities in Tipton.  Pat began at Kirkwood in the fall of 1989 at the Skill Center and later moved into Learning Services. Prior to coming to Kirkwood she worked as Secretary to the Principal at Linn-Mar Junior High School for 26 years. 

Vicki is the Writing Lab coordinator for Student Support Services, and she teaches Workplace Communications courses. She received a B.S.Ed. in English from Pittsburg State University (KS) and an M.A.E. in Special Ed from the University of Northern Iowa. Vicki enjoys helping students overcome their challenges and assists them in focusing on their strengths. Pam has been teaching mathematics courses at the college since 1976. She teaches preparatory math courses in individual, small group, lecture, and computer formats, including Intro to Math for Health Sciences. Pam also teaches Beginning and Intermediate Algebra and has taught math courses for local business and industry. Pam earned her M.A. degree from the University of Iowa.

Marilyn is the Student Support Services Lead Counselor and assists students with career counseling and arranging accommodations. She has her M.A. in Counselor Education from the University of Iowa and her B.A. in Social Work from Mt. Mercy college.

Linda has taught mathematics for 19 years including Personal Achievement Math, Basic Math for Vet Tech, Intro to Math for various Health programs, Pre-Algebra, Beginning Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra. She has co-authored the textbooks for Basic Math, Intro to Math and Pre-Algebra.

Brenda has been a member of the VITAL team for the last eight years. She has her M.A. from the University of Iowa.

Kally has been with the VITAL program for one year. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, she was a 7-12 Resource Teacher at Tipton Middle/High school for 14 years. Kally received her M.A. from the University of Iowa.

Rich has been at Kirkwood since 1978 and teaches Personal Achievement Writing, College Reading, College Reading Internet, and College Prep. He also teaches Multimedia Composition II in the English department. He is a Software Implementation Designer and manager of the COMPASS-ESL computer-placement system and online assessments. Rich has been co-leader of the Learning Technology Initiative for the past 5 years and is chair of the college s Learning Technology Advisory committee. He has a B.S. degree in psychology from Loras College and an M.A. in Education/Counseling from the University of Iowa. He has administrative responsibility for the programs and services offered by the department including tutoring, Student Support Services project, courses in study skills, basic writing, math, reading and Workplace Communictions, test center, VITAL, accommodation services for students with disabilities, Skill Center, and CEO. He has been involved with writing several grants including the SSS grant and the Title III grant. In addition to department responsibilities, he is involved in college wide activities including serving on the Educational Equity Committee and chairs the Academic Policies and Procedures Committee, the Student Success Council, and the ADA committee.

Terri teaches Academic Prep courses for Health Sciences, Business and Agricultural Science. She also teaches College Prep, Personal Achievement Writing, College Reading, Study Skills, and Teacher Proficiency Test Preparation courses. Art is currently Professor/Coordinator of the Communication Skills Program (CSP) at Kirkwood Community College. Art has over twenty years experience in Higher Education. His academic interest includes interpersonal communication, leadership development and organizational management. Art has served as a communication consultant/trainer to a variety of organizations. Art enjoys gardening, playing tennis and watching football. He is an avid Indianapolis Colts fan.

Alan is a math instructor in Learning Services. Before joining Kirkwood, Alan was a teacher and coach for nine years at Kennedy high school in Cedar Rapids. He has taught as an adjunct math instructor at Kirkwood and at Marshalltown Community College. Alan will be teaching Basic Math, College Prep Math, and Pre-Algebra fall semester.

Kathy graduated from Clarke College where she earned a degree in Elementary Education and subsequently taught in elementary schools. She has managed her own preschool and has substitute taught in the Cedar Rapids school system. Kathy particularly enjoys working with Kirkwood students who are Early Childhood majors.

Barb started working at Kirkwood in 1980 as the Coordinator of Student Activities, changed jobs in 1987 to become an Admissions Advisor and in 1991 moved to the Counseling Department. While working in the counseling department she worked with the Skill Center, Project START and Project ACCESS as well as career and academic counseling. From 2000-2008 Barb was the Coordinator of Career Services at Mount Mercy College and came back to Kirkwood in the fall of 2008. She currently works as the Coordinator of the Student Support Services program in Learning Services and as a Counselor for the Student Development department. Barb received her BS degree in Family Environment and MS degree in Counseling Education from Iowa State University.

Joining the Learning Services department in 1998, Connie has worked as an adjunct faculty member and counselor. She has extensive experience with learning disabled students having worked with them at other colleges for the past 10 years. Her interests are in educational assessment and student development. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and School Psychology at the University of Iowa and is Coordinator of Testing Accommodations at ACT Inc. Connie s Web pages

Rita s job is to assist, and support individuals in reaching their educational and vocational goals. The students in her area work on career exploration, vocational assessments, learning how to learn, goal setting and job seeking skills. She has an ADA case load, works with the Department of Corrections, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and credit students in Health Science and other vocational programs.

Lisa has 13 years of teaching experience as well as three years of corporate training experience. Prior to joining Learning Services, she spent two and a half years as a program director for Kirkwood Training Services. Lisa earned her undergraduate degree from Mount Mercy College, and her M.A. degree in Education from the University of Iowa.

Jayne assists individuals referred to the Skill Center in planning career objectives and provides Employment Skill Training. She also teaches College Prep and works with the Department of Corrections REAP program. Other duties include helping students as an ADA Case Manager, providing Perkins support services, and helping students with assistive technology. Jayne received her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa and taught Office Education at Kirkwood and high school Business Education prior to joining the Learning Services department in 1992.
