Do I have to see an advisor before registering for classes?
Until you have earned 34 credit hours you will be prevented from registering for classes without meeting with your advisor. This is a good thing, advisors will assist you in selecting the appropriate classes.
When should I meet with my advisor?
Whenever you have a question and most importantly each semester before Priority Registration begins.
How can I meet with my advisor?
Log in to EagleNet
and see who your advisor is listed on your Academic Profile page. If it says Advising Center, you may walk in any day of the week and meet with anyone. Our hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we are in 108 Iowa Hall. If you have an individual named as your advisor, email him or her to see if an appointment is necessary.
Why is my catalog year important?
The AA and AS degree requirements do undergo changes. The year that you begin at Kirkwood assigns your catalog year and when changes happen they are put into effect for the upcoming catalog year. You must be sure you are following degree requirements that match your catalog year otherwise you could be choosing courses that do not count toward your degree. The best way to do this is to follow your degree audit and double check things with your advisor.
What is Priority Registration?
Priority Registration is a five day window in which only enrolled students may register for the upcoming semester. It is based upon seniority, students with more credits can register before students with fewer credits. You will be notified by the One Stop
office via email as to what your day and time of Priority Registration is. It is important because it allows you to register before Kirkwood allows outside students the option of registering for classes.

How do I add/drop a class?
You may do this in EagleNet
. If you receive financial aid it is important that you talk with the One Stop
office before dropping a class in order to know how it may affect you.
How do I find/calculate my gpa?
Your grade point average is on your degree audit and your unofficial transcript which are accessible in EagleNet

You will need to fill out a change of major form
How many credits may I take in a semester?
Kirkwood allows students to register for up to 18 credits in the fall and spring semesters and 12 in the summer. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should take as many as 18 or 12. Meet with your advisor to determine an acceptable credit load.
Can I get a tutor if I need help in a class?
Yes, there is help available and it is free! The tutoring center
is in 2071 Cedar Hall.
Where can I transfer to after Kirkwood?
Kirkwood has transfer agreements and transfer plans with many Universities and Colleges. These institutions visit campus throughout the school year as well. Meet with your advisor to discuss specifics and meet with representatives when they are on campus advising events calendar

What are “holds” on my record and how do I get them removed?
Kirkwood may place various holds on your record that will prevent you from registering and dropping courses. You can view your holds by logging in to K-Reg
or by logging in to EagleNet
and clicking on Register/Drop Sections. The office that has placed the hold will be listed with their contact number. You must contact that department to find out how you can clear the hold.

How do I have transcripts sent to another college?
It is easy and free. The One Stop
is happy to send your transcript whenever you need it sent. You can call them, email them or request it in your EagleNet
account under the Academic Profile Section.
Can I take a class at another college to meet a Kirkwood requirement?
Of course you can. Many students will take a class over the summer break at a college closer to home. Simply work with your advisor to be sure it is a needed and transferable class. You can also use the equivalency guide on the Transfer Equivalency System
If I have credits from another college, where do I see how they transferred to Kirkwood?
You can see them in one of two ways. You can run your degree audit in EagleNet
or you can view “My Transfer Equivalencies” under the Academic Profile Section in EagleNet
What is an articulation agreement?
Articulation agreements are what we have in place with four year institutions that verify the transferability of your Kirkwood credits. These agreements enable you to transfer with ease to your college of choice and it is best to ask your advisor about the ways in which an agreement will work for you.
How should I prepare for an advising meeting?
This meeting is about you and your progress toward graduation. Have questions ready that will help you make decisions about your next semester. Honest questions are never silly questions. Maybe you need clarification on the difference between an AA and an AS degree. Maybe for the major you want to pursue, you won’t earn a degree – how will you figure this out? Ask your advisor. How much foreign language will you need in order to meet a University requirement? Ask your advisor. How close are you to graduating? Bring along your degree audit or a degree sheet and mark the courses that you have completed and are currently taking and then ask your advisor. Advisors enjoy working with students who take ownership of their course work. Arrive ready to talk about you and your current semester, your next semester and what lies ahead after Kirkwood!
I need an academic plan of study for my financial aid appeal.
Your advisor will sign your academic plan of study once you’ve completed it. If you have questions about the courses you have yet to take before graduating from Kirkwood, your advisor can show you what you have left to plan. Once you complete the plan you will need to meet with your advisor in order to review it and have it signed. Your advisor will not fill out the plan of study for you, it is your responsibility. What type of Honors programs exist at Kirkwood?
If you are looking for a challenge and are interested in earning elective credit for your work, please look into our Honors Program. This program allows you to develop a project you earn credit for. It can also lead to additional scholarship opportunities. You may also want to look into the Phi Theta Kappa organization.
