2016 Financial Literacy Fair
The Fair is the culmination of a year of financial study and career exploration for middle school students. They learn about basic financial decisions that need to be made in life, all based on the occupation of their choice and the income it would provide.
Last year, over 4,500 area middle school students in 7th or 8th grades participated in these Fairs with their guidance counselors and teachers. Workplace Learning Connection provides this experience to students across a seven county region.
Workplace Learning Connection coordinates Fair volunteers to help students decide how to spend their money on expenses such as transportation, housing, insurance, food and “extras”.
These financial booths will be staffed by parent volunteers from each school and business professionals.
Once the students have attended all 11 booths, they will meet with a financial counselor to check their numbers to determine if they made sound financial choices. If their budget doesn’t balance, the counselors will coach them, so they understand how to make better decisions to fit their income.
