Tutoring services are offered free to any Kirkwood student enrolled in credit classes for which tutoring is sought. Students may receive tutoring for two different classes each semester, for up to two hours per week for each class.
Our tutors target individual learning styles and strategies, helping you further understand course content, prepare for exams, expand study skills get help on difficult portions of a class and stay on the right track. The Iowa City Campus offers the following tutoring format options:
Individual tutoring is conducted in person, one tutor per student. Applications to receive tutoring can be filled out here. Once you have applied for a tutor, Tutoring Services will share information with you to contact your new tutor and set up an appointment.
Tutors include current students, recent Kirkwood graduates and instructors who meet our criteria. Students may meet with tutors in various campus locations: libraries, coffee shops or any Tutoring Services approved venue. Tutoring may not occur in a home or apartment. Weekend hours are at the discretion of the tutor/learner. We strive to have tutors available for all credit classes. In cases where a tutor is not available, we may need to contact instructors for a list of potential tutors.
Walk-in tutoring is conducted on a drop-in basis, with unlimited usage throughout the semester. This is a free service to our students. To see times, locations and subjects, click here.
Kirkwood has online tutorials designed to assist students currently enrolled in a math or science course. Class tutorials available online include Survey of Mathematics, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra and Introduction to Chemistry. Tutoring Servies will post additional class tutorials as they are created.
