Kirkwood's Iowa City Campus offers Student Success Seminars throughout the year to share information on everything from fitness and health to stress management and parenting. The seminars are on the dates listed below, and run from 11-11:50 a.m. To watch videos of past seminars, click here.

Thursday, September 13th — Basic Nutrition, Room 263

Proper diet is more than just eating your fruits and vegetables. Join instructor Dave Hall and learn about the New Food Guide Pyramid and how to use it for optimal health. Participants will also learn how to calculate their personal daily caloric needs and how to maintain or lose body weight.

Thursday, September 27th — Building Your Credit, Room 262

Keeping your personal finances in good order can help prepare you for future success. Join representatives from US Bank for this seminar on how to build a good credit rating and ensure your future access to loans and lower interest rates when you need them.

Thursday, October 11th — Who Do YOU Want to Be? Room 263

Who and what would you like to be in life? How do you know you’ll be happy? This session will focus on the fact that YOU probably already know who you are and what you like and don’t like. Too many people choose a career based on statistics, money, job availability, family expectations or current trends, rather than choosing it because it will be fulfilling. Attend this session facilitated by counselor Karen McCaa and find out how to have the self-awareness to pursue your future wisely.

Thursday, October 25th — Yoga, Room 353

Learn specific yoga techniques from instructor Pat Keyes to help you relax and rejuvenate during your busy day. Research shows yoga can lead to many benefits, including better concentration, lower blood pressure, and positive effects on learning and memory.

Thursday, November 8th — Meditation, Room 353

Striving for more calm and focus? Join this session led by Pat Keyes and learn specific hands-on meditation techniques to help you relax and refresh your mind. Meditation principles and practice can reduce stress and build coping skills which may result in a more positive life experience and outlook.

Thursday, November 29th — Chill Out! Room 263

We’ve all been there. It’s getting close to finals week! Don’t blow a head gasket! Join counselor Karen McCaa and learn a few strategies to help you prevent and combat personal, emotional and physical stress.
