Fifth Kirkwood Family Day marks record attendance amid mild weather
The festivities keep getting bigger, year after year.
Kirkwood Community College hosted its fifth annual Family Day Saturday, October 1. Kirkwood Student Life, Admissions and the Kirkwood Foundation joined with dozens of faculty, staff and student volunteers as the college hosted more than 1,500 current students, parents and alumni to the Cedar Rapids campus.
“The weather was perfect, we had lots of fun activities and got great help and support from so many areas. It was a great success,” observed Kirkwood Housing Coordinator Sharon Blanchard, who was co-chair of the welcoming event along with Jody Donaldson, scholarship and alumni director.
In addition to the events scheduled near the heart of the campus in the Bookstore/Iowa Hall area, hayrack rides took hundreds of visitors on an up-close tour of the 680 acre main campus. A community open house at Kirkwood’s Animal Health building reported about 200 visitors as well. Free food, music, demonstrations and alumni sports events rounded out the day, graced by near-record warmth and mild weather for the first of October.
