FLG-141: Elementary German I
Introduces the "5 Cs" of second language acquisition (communication, cultures, connections, comparisons and communities) by developing fundamental communicative skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and providing the opportunity to examine the practices and products of various Germanic cultures. Making comparisons and connections between the German and English languages, practices, products and people is an important course components. Open to students with little or no previous study of German. Credits: 4, Prereq: none.

FLG-142: Elementary German II

FLG-241: Intermediate German I
Students will develop the ability to communicate in German in a culturally authentic mode. Students will learn about the culture of the German-speaking world through authentic materials, discussions of how language and culture function in their own lives, and through activities designed to build skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Credits: 4, Prereq: FLG 142

FLG-242: Intermediate German II
Students will develop the ability to communicate in simple to complex language in a culturally authentic mode. Students build upon cultural analysis skills developed in Intermediate German I, to further develop language and cultural competencies. This course uses digital video and has a large web-based component. Basic communicative skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This is the final course in the German sequence. Credits: 4, Prereq: FLG 241
