Vocal Ensemble Auditions

Students interested in singing in one of Kirkwood’s choirs should contact the ensemble director and arrange an individual voice placement audition. Fred Kiser (kiserf@gmail.com) is the director of the Concert Chorale and Ray Salucka (rsalucka@gmail.com) is director of the vocal jazz ensembles.

Auditions are by appointment during finals week of the semester preceding your anticipated enrollment, and also during the week preceding each term. Vocal Music Scholarship auditions may also serve as your placement audition.

Concert Chorale
Students auditioning for placement in Concert Chorale will do some tonal memory and melodic sight-reading exercises and should be prepared to sing “America the Beautiful” a cappella. Performing a prepared vocal solo (jazz standard, Broadway or contemporary piece) is encouraged, but not required. An accompanist will be provided, but you are welcome to sing to a prerecorded accompaniment track that you provide.

Concert Chorale is a one-credit elective course that meets Tuesday/Thursday in Cedar Hall 384. See the course catalog for specific meeting times. Contact Fred Kiser at kiserf@gmail.com for more information.

Vocal Jazz Ensembles - Jazz Transit and RSVP
Students auditioning for placement in Jazz Transit or RSVP will do some tonal memory and melodic and rhythmic sight-reading exercises and should be prepared to sing “America the Beautiful” a cappella. Performing a prepared vocal solo (jazz standard, Broadway or contemporary piece) is strongly encouraged. An accompanist will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own or sing to a pre-recorded accompaniment track.

The jazz choirs are one-credit elective courses that meet Monday/Wednesday/Friday in Cedar Hall 384. See the course catalog for specific meeting times. Contact Ray Salucka at rsalucka@gmail.com for more information.

Enrollment in the jazz choirs is limited and students are encouraged to audition the semester preceding their anticipated enrollment.
