Description: Ever wished you could turn that home-made documentary into something a little more professional? Ever had to work with high definition cameras, state of the art editing equipment, or receive tips from a professional script writer? Many colleges and institutes engage in a variety of international projects and activities which are often lost to the institutional history shortly after they are completed. One way to ensure these projects continue in terms of their ability to inform, educate and showcase international initiatives is to create a short documentary film of the project.
Participants in this workshop are encouraged to bring a notional documentary proposal, rough work, or any other materials they think relevant. Over the course of five hours, they will work with industry professionals to focus on the key components of a short production. Included will be scripting, blocking, and storyboarding to provide the appropriate framework, followed by the more active elements of shooting, narrating, sound recording and editing. Participants should finish the day with a good understanding of the elements of documentary production and a game plan for completion of individual projects....all in the context of hight tech fun using great equipment.
Humber College offers a three year technical diploma in film making as well as a four year baccalaureate in film and media arts production and has over the past few years produced several films showcasing various international projects. This hands-on workshop will be led by senior faculty members and, while there are no prerequisites, experience with basic video and sound equipment will be very helpful. Preregistration is required and workshop size will be strictly limited.
