Josef Yegge
Head Coach
Yegge enters his 3rd season as the Head Coach for the Kirkwood Eagles. In his second season at the helm the Eagles saw a tremendous turnaround from the previous year. In Yegge's first year the team won 26 games and then improved to winning 41 games his second season. In the 2009 season Kirkwood had 3 members of the team named All American. Carlie Schnoebelen was named 1st Team All American by the NFCA as an outfielder. Kylee Knop a freshman pitcher from Oxford Ga. was named 2nd team NJCAA and NFCA, and rounding out the Eagle's All American is Chelsea Parrish, she was named to the NFCA 2nd team as a DH. Along with these three individuals Heather VanHyning was name 1st team Mid West All Region by the NFCA. With these honors Kirkwood also had 10 payers from the team named to the ICCAC All Region squad.
In Yegge’s first season with the Eagles, he guided 6 players to the All-Region team, landing 2 on the first team. Yegge also led the Eagles to a Top Ten All-Academic Team presented by the Nation Fastpitch Coaches Association. Amongst the team, five individuals received NFCA Academic All-American honors. Also During the season Yegge hit a coaching milestone picking up his 100th career win against NIACC.
Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Yegge spent five seasons as the top assistant at Division One Indiana State University, where he was incharge of working with the hitters.
In 2007, Yegge helped mentor Senior 1st Baseman Stephanie Spychaj to Indiana State’s first member to be named to the Conference All-Tournament team.
In 2006, Yegge oversaw an offense that leaped into the all-time team record books with 11 home runs (3rd All-Time) and 68 doubles (2nd All-Time). Yegge also coached Freshman Katie Armour whose .377 batting average is good for a 4th place tie in the Sycamore Individual Record books. Armour went on to become a 1st Team All-Region selection that year. This was Indiana States first ever 1st Team All-region player.
In 2005, Yegge can be credited with the continued development of an ISU batting lineup. Under Yegge, the Sycamores earned six Missouri Valley Conference victories -- the most since 2001.
In 2004, Yegge was instrumental in the team breaking four team offensive records (Home runs, Doubles, Base on Balls and at Bats), and finishing in the Top Five of five statistical categories.
Prior to coming to Indiana State, Yegge was the head coach at North Iowa Area Community College from 1998-2002 after serving as the assistant coach for two seasons. While at NIACC, he led the team to its first 30-win season in eight years and was instrumental in helping seven players advance on to four-year institutions.
Additionally, Yegge coached 15 all-region selections during his time in Mason City. Yegge graduated in 2002 from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The State Center, Iowa native attended NIACC and Buena Vista University, and is currently working on his Master in Physical Education from Indiana State University. He continued his athletic career at NIACC where he was a member of the football team.
Yegge is an active member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, sitting on the Hall of Fame and All-American Selection committees. Joe, his wife Amy, and son Wyatt reside in Cedar Rapids.
