Mike has been involved in health care and health care education for more than 15 years. Mike worked as a paramedic and a flight paramedic for EMS agencies in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. He still works part-time as a paramedic for Keokuk County Ambulance Service in Sigourney, Iowa.

Mike came to Kirkwood as a Health Science adjunct faculty member in 1995. He became the director of Health Occupations for Continuing Education at Kirkwood Community College in 2002 and in 2008 was named the director of the Kirkwood Healthcare Simulation Center. Mike, his wife, their two boys and two dogs live in rural Solon.

EJ Brink is a graduate from Kirkwood Community College in the Fire Science and EMT Programs. He has worked as an Advanced EMT for various facilities/departments in the Cedar Rapids area. He is also an EMT and CPR Instructor for Kirkwood. EJ joined Kirkwood full time in the spring of 2011. Currently, EJ is a volunteer firefighter/AEMT for the Fairfax Fire Department.

Dr. Ryan Sundermann

Ryan Sundermann is an emergency room physician at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ryan received his medical education at the University of Iowa and completed his residency in Detroit, Michigan. Ryan has experience in prehospital medicine as a medic and Green Beret and serves as the medical director for Lifeguard Air Ambulance, Kirkwood Community College's EMS Training Program, and many other services and agencies.

Heather is a graduate from the University of Northern Iowa. She has taught Environmental Education for a county conservation board and spent some time as an administrative coordinator for a non-profit. Heather joined Kirkwood full-time in February 2012 as the Simulation Education Assistant.
