Transfer in Iowa Web Portal Available
Iowa’s Regent universities and community colleges have joined to create a web portal dedicated to assisting students with the transfer process. The site serves as a one-stop resource for students planning their future. The url for the site is http://www.transferiniowa.org/.

Each year, thousands of students transfer from Iowa community colleges to one of the state’s three public universities. Transferring from one college to the next can be a big step, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. The website contains resources helpful in educational planning as well as information for students to discuss with their counselor/adviser(s).

The number one question transfer students ask is “How will my credits transfer?” By following the links on the website, students can learn about how their community college courses transfer to each of the three state public universities.

The website contains resources explaining statewide articulation agreements and individual program-to-program articulation agreements by community college. These resources are useful for students planning to transfer as well as counselors and advisors. In addition to online resources, it’s always a good idea for students to discuss their plans with both a community college and university counselor/adviser.

Criteria for Selection and Determining the Amount of the Award
All Kirkwood students who include Kirkwood on their FAFSA are uploaded to our mainframe system. If there are questions about a student’s FAFSA, a missing information letter is sent to the student so their file can be completed. Award notification letters are sent to all students with completed files. Before packaging a financial aid award, cost of attendance is determined for the student, based on living arrangements (at home or away from home). Because funds are limited, SEOG, Federal Work-Study and Perkins Loan funds are awarded to students based on the date their FAFSA was submitted, assuming other criteria is met. SEOG funds are awarded to students with a zero EFC. Work-Study and Perkins Loan funds are awarded to students who have demonstrated financial need. Pell Grants are determined using the federal formula. Subsidized Stafford Loan amounts are awarded based on financial need. The remaining Stafford Loan eligibility is awarded as an unsubsidized loan.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an approved degree program.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress in the selected course of study.
  • Be registered with Selective Service (if required).
  • Not owe a replacement on a federal or state grant.
  • Not be in default on a student loan.

Satisfactory Progress Standards

Disbursement Methods
Your financial aid will be applied to your tuition approximately 10 days before the start of the term. Any amount remaining after tuition is paid may be used to purchase books and supplies at the bookstore. If an amount remains after tuition, books, and supplies have been paid, the balance will be mailed to your local address approximately two weeks after the start of the term. The one exception to that time is that first-time borrowers are subject to a mandatory 30-day wait for Stafford Loan balances.
