Jeff Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Education degree from the University of Iowa. He started working for Kirkwood in 1978 as a faculty member teaching Weld Quality programs and in 1988 assumed the position of Program Director of Industrial Education for Continuing Education. Jeff became Dean of Industrial Technologies in 2010.

Ana Gilbertson has been with Kirkwood since May of 2008. Before coming to Industrial Technologies she worked with local businesses promoting the use of the National Career Readiness Certificate through Kirkwood’s Skills Advantage program. Ana has worked with many local businesses providing job analysis and training support, primarily in the manufacturing sector. Ana works primarily with the Advanced Manufacturing degree programs in her role at Kirkwood.

Dan Behaunek has a Diploma from Kirkwood Community College. Dan has been with Kirkwood since 1979. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Dan worked at East Side Body Shop in Belle Plaine, Iowa, as a Collision Repair Technician. He is a member of the Eastern Iowa Body Shop Association.

David has been an international & domestic field service technician for 30 years with several different types of manufacturers. He has established and developed corporate testing and training procedures, managed corporate training departments and trainers, and helped established wind training programs for four different community colleges. He consulted on three wind technology simulators currently being sold around the world, designed and developed safety training, rigging and lifting, NFPA 70E and classroom curriculum. David has built several training simulators currently being used by manufacturers. He has been with Kirkwood Community College since February of 2011 as the program developer and instructor of the Energy Production & Distribution Technology Program.

Gary has an Associates of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology from Northeast Technical Community College in Norfolk Nebraska and a Bachelor of Science in History and Political Science from Wayne State College in Wayne Nebraska. Gary joined U.S. Army in 1983. Some notable assignments include service as an Artillery Forward Observer for several Infantry units, an Ariel Fire Support Observer flying an OH-58 D Kiowa helicopter, and Chief of Instruction for the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems Fielding Team at Fort Sill Oklahoma. Gary retired in 2003, after 20 years service. Since 2003, Gary has owned and operated several automotive repair facilities, an auto body shop, and a pizzeria. Gary joined the faculty at Kirkwood in August of 2007.

Brian graduated from Kirkwood with an A.A.S. in Automotive Technology in 1997, and returned as faculty in 2009. He was the first Auto Tech student to achieve first place at the VICA/Skills USA State Championship. He spent 12 years working full-time in the field, achieving Master status with Chevrolet in 1999, and Master Diagnostic Technician status with Toyota in 2008. Brian is ASE Master Certified and ASE L1 Advanced Engine Performance certified.

Austin earned an A.A.S. in Robotics/Automation Technologies from Indian Hills Community College. Austin has been with Kirkwood since 2012. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Austin worked 3 ˝ years in the electrical industry as a Technical Specialist for Van Meter Industrial. In his previous role, he provided technical assistance, solution support, on-site service, and technical training on a broad range of high-end industrial automation hardware and software.

Dan earned a diploma in Welding at Hawkeye Community College. In 1985, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was honor graduate at the Marine Corp Welding School in Camp Lejune, NC. Dan owned and operated his own welding and fabrication business from 1990 until 2006. Prior to beginning at Kirkwood, Dan taught welding courses at Northeast Community College.

Jones Hall

Joe enjoys teaching and research in the areas of Building Construction Systems, Sustainable Construction Science and Material Science. He is a faculty sponsor of the USGBC Student club as well as an advisor for the Solar Decathlon student project. Since receiving his B.S. in Industrial Technology and his M.S. in Instructional Technology, Joe has begun his studies towards a Ph.D. in Biomemetics within the built environment. He has earned certification as a LEED GA and serves as a Regional Chair for USGBC.

Tim joined the faculty at Kirkwood in 2008. Prior to that, he owned his own architectural design and construction management firm for over 10 years. Tim earned a diploma in Architectural Technologies from Des Moines Area Community College, holds an A.A.S. in Construction Management from Kirkwood, and is working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Management from Mount Mercy College.

Steve Hanisch is teaching Construction Management and Architecture courses for concurrent enrollment as part of the new Johnson County Regional Academy. His teaching experience prior to this position includes three years as an adjunct instructor of Industrial Technologies: Construction Management and one year as an Industrial Technologies: Construction teacher at Prairie High School. Steve holds a B.M. from the University of Iowa and an A.A.S. in Construction Management from Kirkwood. Before teaching Steve worked for 18 years as a general contractor, modular construction specialist and craftsman. He looks forward to being the instructor of the Construction Management and Architecture Academy on the new Kirkwood campus at the University of Iowa.

Todd Hesseltine has an A.A.S. from Kirkwood Community College. Todd has been with Kirkwood since 2001. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Todd was an Automotive Technician at Advanced Auto Service in Iowa City. Todd was picked as the Outstanding Student of the year in the Year in the Kirkwood Automotive Technology program class of 1990. He was raised around a family owned Automotive Repair Shop in Iowa City.

Bob Jones received an A.A.S. Degree in Laser/Electro Optics from Indian Hills Community College in 1989. Bob developed and started the Telecommunications Technology program at Kirkwood in August 1999. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Bob worked at McLeodUSA for 6 years in Field Operations as a technician, supervisor and technical trainer. While at McLeodUSA, he attended 8 vendors certified training courses and received training certificates. Prior to McLeodUSA, Bob worked 6 years for Smiths Industries Aerospace in Michigan in the Engineering Research and Development of Fiber Optic Gyro guidance systems for the Strategic Defense Initiative program.

Ian W. Philpott, a graduate of the University of Nottingham, England, worked as a Research Engineer for EMI. The Philpott family moved to the United States in 1982, then to Iowa in 1985. Ian worked for Rockwell Collins for nearly twenty years. Ian is a Master Gardener, specializing in ornamental grasses and clematis.

Jonathon Pope graduated from the T-TEN program at Kirkwood with an A.A.S. in Automotive Technology in 2004. Jonathon has been with Kirkwood since 2012. He was an automotive technician at independent shops part-time for four years and spent eight years working full-time for Lexus in Des Moines, becoming a Lexus Master Technician in 2008. Jonathon is ASE Master Certified.

Dennis Ringgenberg has an A.A.S. degree from Kirkwood Community College. He has been with Kirkwood since 2001. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Dennis was a welder/fabricator for Hawkeye Weld in Iowa City. In addition to his A.A.S. degree, he is an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), an AWS Certified Weld Educator, a multi-process certified welder for structural material and pressure piping, and an I-CAR Welder Certification Test Administrator.

Jim received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa in May 1993. Prior to, he received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. degree in Mathematics from Grinell College. Jim came to Kirkwood with 10 years of industry experience including telecommunications and biomedical work experience with extensive hardware and software experience.

George Trotter has been teaching technical material since his first experience in the U.S. Navy. Having enjoyed that classroom experience, he returned to Iowa State to add a teaching certificate to his previous BS in industrial education. He has taught high school classes in Charles City, area community college classes at Northwest Iowa Tech and Kirkwood Community College and electrical apprenticeship classes for the Association of Builders and Contractors of Iowa and the State of Connecticut. He has held a masters electrician license in Iowa and a journeyman license in Connecticut. Presently he lives in Ainsworth with his wife, Deanna, enjoying their children and grandchildren.

Bob Wade is teaching Advanced Manufacturing in the Linn County Regional Center, as well as on the main campus in Jones Hall. Bob has earned two degrees from Kirkwood Community College, one in Computer Numerical Controlled Manufacturing Technologies and the other in Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication. Bob brings his industrial experience from working the last eight years at Schneider Electric in Cedar Rapids as a prototype development model maker and two years of internship at Integrated DNA Technologies in Coralville Iowa, working in their prototype development lab. Prior to being hired full time, Bob taught at Kirkwood as an adjunct faculty member for three years in the Career Academy.

John Williams has a diploma from Algonquin College. Prior to coming to Kirkwood, John worked in his family's plumbing business. He started teaching in the Plumbing Apprenticeship program at Algonquin College in 1987 and became the program coordinator in 1990. John relocated into the midwest in 2001 and worked for the City of Iowa City as the backflow coordinator and for the City of Moline as the Field Service Manager for the Water Plant.

Allen Witt is teaching Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) courses for concurrent enrollment as part of the Linn Regional Center in Hiawatha. He has been teaching at Kirkwood since 2009. Allen received his B.S. from Purdue University in 1986 in Construction Engineering and Management. He is a certified in Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) from US Green Building Council (USGBC), a licensed Professional Engineer, and a Certified Green Professional from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). He has experience in architecture, construction and engineering and design projects in Iowa, Florida and Maine.
