The first name of your avatar can be anything you like. You will choose a last name from a drop down list. You can't change your name later, so choose something you want to stick with. Sign up for a FREE Second Life account at http://www.secondlife.com/ or sign up on one of the following alternate sites to start your virtual experience with content that matches your interests.

	ISTE Linden Labs (the creators of Second Life) have teamed with ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) to offer a starting point for educators in Second Life. The ISTE location offers live "docents" with regular office hours to help you begin your virtual journey in Second Life. They also offer weekly speakers and tours with an educational focus.
	Virtual Ability Inc. This is a non-profit corporation who's mission is to enable people with a range of disabilities to enter the virtual world of Second Life. This location has one of the best orientation areas in-world. Your sign-up begins on a page that asks if you would like to receive information about a variety of disabilities after you are in Second Life.
	SciLands The SciLands a mini-continent and user community devoted exclusively to science and technology. There are over 20 science and technology related organizations in the SciLands, including government agencies, universities and museums. SciLands members have regular meetings in Second Life where they share ideas, help each other, and plan future projects.
