General Educational Development Diploma
(GED or High School Equivalency Diploma)

The General Educational Development Diploma, or GED for short, is a high school diploma awarded by the Iowa Department of Education. You can get a GED by successfully completing several multiple choice tests that cover reading, writing, social studies, science and math.

You can take the GED tests at the Kirkwood Lincoln Center, or at other select Kirkwood center locations. For more information, call 319-366-0142.

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT ONLINE GED PROGRAMS:

Persons seeking to meet the Iowa High School Equivalency Diploma requirements should be aware of companies that claim to offer the Test of General Educational Development (GED) over the Internet or through correspondence courses.  There are NO online or correspondence testing programs recognized by the General Educational Development Testing Service (GEDTS) of the American Council of Education (ACE.)Persons can ONLY take the Official GED Test Battery at an approved Iowa GED test center. The only way to receive an Iowa High School Equivalency Diploma is to successfully pass the Official GED Test Battery by Iowa state standards. The current Iowa state standard is to achieve a minimum standard score of 410 on each of the five Official GED Test Battery subtests and an overall standard score average of 450.  Official tests can only be taken after a student has successfully passed Official GED Practice Tests.

For students who received their GED after January 1, 2002, you may print off an official copy of your transcript by visiting http://ged123.org/ You will need your access code received during testing to access your scores. If you do not have this code, please contact us.
