Wellness is an active process of becoming aware and making choices toward a more successful existence.

Seven Dimensions of Wellness

Social Wellness - This dimension is the process of creating and maintaining healthy relationships through the choices we make.  This also refers to our ability to relate well to others, both within and outside of the family unit.

Physical Wellness - This dimension encourages participation in regular physical activities which improve cardiovascular strength and endurance, flexibility, and muscular strength.  It also involves understanding and appreciating the relationship between sound nutrition and how the body performs.  This dimension also involves practicing medical self-care for minor illness and knowing when professional medical attention is needed.

Emotional Wellness - This dimension involves feeling positive and enthusiastic about ourselves and life, in general.  The ability to understand your own feelings, accept your limitations, and achieve emotional stability.

Intellectual Wellness - This dimension encourages continued learning, problem solving and creativity.  It involves verbal skills, and keeping abreast of social and political issues.

Environmental Wellness - This dimension is the process of making choices which contribute to sustaining or improving the quality of life in the universe.  This includes responsible choices regarding the use of air, water, land, and energy so that future generations of each species may survive and thrive.

Spiritual Wellness - This dimension is the process of discovering meaning and purpose in life, and demonstrating values through behaviors.  It involves the tolerance of values and beliefs of others and participating in activities that are consistent with personal values.
