Encounters in Humanities

The service-learning component in my Encounters in Humanities class involves volunteer work at an arts agency. Students complete a portfolio of their experience, including reflections on their work and its connection to the subject we've discussed in class.

Students complete 12 hours of work at their agency and write several reflections on their work, which totals about 7-10 pages of writing.

Students select agencies from the list of arts agencies contained in the service learning website. Occasionally students find agencies closer to their homes that are not listed on the site.

I do not offer a service-learning section of Encounters in Humanities every semester. The pattern I'm trying to establish is that I offer it every other year in the fall.
