My Intro to Psych students volunteer for one hour to help meet unmet needs.My Social Psych students volunteer for two hours to help meet unmet needs. They may choose to help organizations (e.g. Big Brothers/Big Sisters or the I owa City Shelter House) or someone they know personally (e.g. babysitting for a friend or helping a neighbor with a physical disability clean his/her house). They are required to type a one page paper stating how they identified the unment need, how they determined what they could do to help, how they felt during the helping session, and discuss if the session altered their likelihood to help others in the future.
