GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

In a team based environment, this position will be responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of Windows servers and applications. This position requires up-to-date understanding of the technology tools available, and online research skills to solve business problems. This position will work closely with College departments to design and implement technology solutions and will document processes and procedures to maintain the applications and interfaces. The Windows System Administrator will also provide high level support and assistance to the Desktop Support team, and assist Sr. Systems Administrators as necessary. This position requires advanced knowledge of an HP/Microsoft computing environment, understanding of data communications, networking, and the computing needs of end users. This is a customer facing position, requiring daily interaction with all levels of the college’s end-users, so strong communication, interpersonal, and training skills are required. Occasional travel to any of Kirkwood’s regional sites may be required. This person must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Regular and consistent attendance at work.

·         Install, maintain, and support College computer systems.

·         Maintain Active Directory and integrate Microsoft and third-party applications.

·         Monitor and report on performance of network systems.

·         Effective, daily interaction with end users to resolve issues related to the effective use of technology.

·       Must maintain compliance with required training as designated by supervisor.

Frequent (34-66%)

·         Document processes, procedures, and schedules to effectively maintain systems and applications.

·         Assist as needed in maintaining local and wide area networking.

·         Assist users and departments in planning for equipment upgrades and purchases.

·         Fill out necessary inventory forms.

·         Liaison between end users and vendor support personnel to assist in problem resolution.

·         Travel to on and off-campus facilities for installation, demonstration, maintenance and repair of equipment.

Occasional (10-33%)   

·         Provide assistance and instruction to front line computer specialists in their support activities.

·         Assist in deployment of network infrastructure components.

·         On-call after hours as needed.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH OR WITHOUT A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves constant (67-100%) work with computer keyboard, internal components of computers, modems and printers, and any assembly or repair of cables associated with those products.  Constant (67-100%) grasping, talking and repetitive motion; and viewing computer and/or close visual work.  Frequent (34-66%) walking, pushing, and pulling.  Frequent (34-66%) exerting up to 50 pounds to move computer and/or network components.  Occasional (10-33%) climbing and balancing on a ladder or a stepladder to a height of 10 ft. to pull cable and perform other related work as required.  Occasional (10-33%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing and sitting.

 

May potentially be subject to hazardous chemicals (e.g., cleaning solvents, and printer ribbons).

 

Person in this position must satisfactorily complete Kirkwood’s Right-to Know (Hazardous Chemicals) program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two year technology related degree and three years experience or equivalent education with computer hardware, software, and network products required. Experience with computers and peripherals, and the following software products required: Windows 2003/2008 networks, Windows XP, Microsoft SQL Server. Problem solving skills are a must. This person must be willing to work evenings and weekends as required. This person must have valid Driver’s license. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed the core assessments of the Skills Advantage WorkKeys Program.
SALARY:

Commensurate with education and experience. Paygrade K
