Before registering at Kirkwood for the first time, you need to:

  • take the COMPASS placement test OR
  • submit your current ACT test scores OR
  • show that you’ve taken a college-level writing and math course at another college by submitting your official transcript to Kirkwood.

Advisors in the Advising and Testing Center use your COMPASS and/or ACT scores to help you select classes. An ACT or COMPASS score in reading and writing is good for three years from the date you originally took the test. Math scores are good for one year from the date you originally took the test.

See what reading, writing and math classes you’ll take based on your test scores.
