ACT Endowed Scholarship Program at Kirkwood Community College
Amount: Full Tuition

  • Must be pursuing an A.A. or A.S. degree with career interest in Science (Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Physics); Technology (Computer Science, Computer Information Systems; Engineering or Mathematics).
  • Must satisfactorily complete an e-Compass or WorkKeys assessment.
  • Preference given to historically underrepresented populations including African-Americans and Latinos.
  • 20% of awards allocated to international students; 80% of awards allocated to domestic students.
  • Recipients will be expected, as required by ACT and Kirkwood Community College, to participate in up to two (2) seminars each term sponsored jointly by Kirkwood and ACT.
  • Recipients may be considered for summer employment as interns at ACT on a part-time or full-time basis.

 

Arts & Humanities Scholarship
Amount: $500 per year 

  • Must be a second-year student.
  • Must have completed a minimum of nine credit hours of Arts & Humanities courses.
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

  

Bradley & Riley PC Legal Assistant/Paralegal Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 per year

  • Must be enrolled in the Legal Assistant/Paralegal program.
  • Must be committed to work in Linn, Johnson or Polk County after graduation.

 

Carol J. Carpenter Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must be enrolled in Education Careers.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Cheryle & Frank Mitvalsky Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in Edcation Careers.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

David R. Goodwin Mt. Hermon Lodge Law Enforcement Scholarship
Amount: $200 per year

  • Must be a U.S. citizen who graduated from a Linn County high school.
  • Must have completed one semester in Criminal Justice.
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

 

Donald James Bergman Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Preference given to veteran(s) and/or student(s) enrolled in education careers.
  • Preference given to student(s) who have overcome significant hardship and demonstrate an authentic desire to succeed.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Doren Kuster Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must be pursuing an A.A. degree with career interest in music--with preference given to vocal music student.
  • Must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.0 or college GPA of 2.5. Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA to receive second year funding.
  • Preference given to a student who participated in high school tennis.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

DuPont Scholarship
Amount: $1,500 per year

  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in biotechnology or biology. 
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  • Recipients will be invited for a plant tour.

 

Ervin Poduska Memorial Math & Science Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 per year

  • Must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average.
  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in mathematics, biology, chemistry or physics. 
  • Must indicate how your interest in math or science developed, reasons for majoring in math or science and your career goals. 
  • Must provide a letter of recommendation from a math or science instructor.

 

Fine & Performing Arts Scholarship
Amount: Up to $1,200 per semester 

  • Must maintain at least eight semester hours, including at least one course in a subject other than music, theatre or art.  An initial audition and/or porfolio review is required.  Applications are screen each term to determine continuing eligibility.  Fine and Performing Arts scholarships are awarded to students pursuing an A.A. degree with career interests in music or theatre as well as those pursuing other academic interests. 
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must actively contribute to the music, theatre and/or art programs, including enrollment in ensembles and/or productions.

Gene Phillips Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in math or science. 
  • Must indicate your career interest in math or science related fields.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Giacoletto Foundation Scholarship
Amount: $7,500 first year; $7,500 renewable for second year

  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and an ACT of at least 22.
  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in engineering with the intention of completing a four-year degree. 
  • Must demonstrate a passion for engineering and show participation in activities such as advance mathematics, FIRST Robotics, Engineering Career Academy or Project Lead the Way classes.
  • Preference given to a resident of Iowa.
  • Must perform two hours of volunteer work per week during each semester at the Four Oaks Bridge Achievement Academy (tutoring/mentoring).

 

Highway Equipment Company Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in engineering or enrolled in Business Administration.
  • Must have a minimum 2.75 grade point average.

  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in engineering.

Howard Ellson Memorial Music Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per semester 

  • Must be pursuing an A.A. degree with career interest in music--with preference given to a band student.

HR Green Scholarship
Amount: $1,500 per year 

  • Must be enrolled in CAD/Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Electronics Engineering Technology, Energy Production & Distribution, Geographic Information Systems, Water Environmental Technology or be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in biology, engineering or environmental science.
  • Must have a minimum 2.8 grade point average.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Iowa Broadcasters Association Scholarship
Amount: $2,000 per year

  • Must be a second-year student in Communications Media/Public Relations.
  • Must be seeking a career in radio or television broadcasting (indicate how you meet the criteria).
  • Must have a combination of academic ability and potential, as well as demonstrate community interest and involvement.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

  • Must be enrolled in at least eight semester hours and pursuing a degree with career interest in music, theatre, or art as well as degrees with other academic interests.

  • Must be a full-time student who has completed one year in one of the following areas and be pursuing an A.A. or A.S. degree with career interest in Science (Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Physics); Technology (Computer Science, Computer Information Systems); Engineering or Mathematics
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.

  • Must be enrolled in Education, Early Childhood Education or Human Services.

  • Preference will be given to a student pursuing a degree with career interest in fine arts.

Michael J Gould Criminal Justice Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must be enrolled in Criminal Justice. 
  • Must indicate your interest in a career in corrections or law enforcement.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Paul & Dorothy Pospichil Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 per year

  • Must be enrolled in Edcation Careers. 
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Preference given to Prairie High School graduates.
  • Preference given to students who are pursuing a teaching career in high school history.

 

Performing Arts Honors Scholarship
Amount: $1,500 per semester

  • Must be a full-time student and an advisee of the director of the applicant’s major.
  • New and returning students are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be enrolled in Applied Music, Music Education, Theatre or Theatre Education.
  • At least one course per semester must be in an area outside of music or theatre.
  • Must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Students who have been out of school for more than five years may submit a portfolio in lieu of a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  • Must attend an audition on the stated day and time listed in the Performing Arts department promotional materials.
  • Must submit three references to the advisor who does the audition.
  • Students may be eligible for this award for a maximum of four semesters (consecutive semesters or nonconsecutive semesters will be considered).
  • Students must demonstrate talent, commitment and responsibility as observed by their directors.
  • If a student does not maintain eligibility for the Honors Scholarship but remains eligible for a regular Performing Arts Scholarship, he/she may, at the discretion of the director, be given a lesser award.

Retired School Personnel/Hills Bank Education Careers Scholarship
Amount: $700 per year

  • Must be enrolled in Education Careers.
  • Must be a graduate of one of the seven high schools in Johnson County.

The scholarship will be awarded on a rotating basis. Johnson County home school students and Johnson County students who earned a GED will also be considered.

 

Robert Aldridge Memorial Theatre Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 per year

  • Must maintain at least eight semester hours, including at least one course in a subject other than music, theatre or art. An initial audition and/or portfolio review is required. Applications are screened each term to determine continuing eligibility. Fine and Performing Arts scholarships are awarded to students pursuing an A.A. degree with career interest in music or theatre as well as those pursuing degrees in other academic interests.
  • Must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must actively contribute to the music, theatre and/or art programs, including enrollment in ensembles and/or productions.

Robert and Doris French Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in Liberal Arts or Graphic Communication Technology.
  • Must indicate intention of transferring to a four-year institution upon graduation.
  • First preference will be given to students studying illustration, photography or graphic design. Students participating in performing arts will also be considered.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Rockwell Collins STEM Scholarship
Amount: $3,750 per year

  • Must be from a traditionally underrepresented group (TUG) including ethnic and racial groups, females, and/or individuals with disabilities.
  • Must be enrolled in one of the following STEM programs:  Computer Information Systems, Electronics Engineering Technology, CAD/Mechanical Engineering Technology, LAN Management, Computer Support Specialist, Industrial Maintenance/HVAC Technology, or Engineering.
  • Preference given to high school Career Edge Academy program graduates.

 

Rohde Family Engineering Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 per year

  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in engineering. 
  • Must have a minimum 2.75 grade point average.
  • Preference given to students who are single parents or from single-parent homes (must indicate how you meet the criteria).
  • Student should indicate community involvement with intent to work in the Cedar Rapids area.

 

Sam McGrath MathScholarship
Amount: $500 per year

  • Must be enrolled in Education Careers.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Preference given to Iowa students who are pursuing a teaching career in math.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Sandy Frederick Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Amount: $750 per semester

  • Must be enrolled in Arts and Sciences or Career Transfer.
  • Preference given to single parents.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average with preference given to students with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be a resident of Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn or Washington County.

 

Sgt James Musack Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $500 per semester 

  • Must be enrolled in Fire Science Management.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Shive-Hattery Engineering Scholarship
Amount: $500 per year

  • Must be pursuing an A.S. degree with career interest in engineering. 
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Simmons, Perrine, Moyer, Bergman P.L.C. Scholarship
Amount: $500 per year

  • Must be enrolled in Paralegal.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Starcevich Family Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must be enrolled Education Careers.
  • Must have the intention of completing a four-year degree in education with the goal of teaching in either special education or math.

 

STEM (NSF) Scholars Program
Amount: Up to $4,000 per year

  • Must be a full-time, declared major in one of the following transfer programs of study:  Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Exercise Science, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology--or be enrolled in one of the following career technical programs:  Agriculture Graphic Information Systems, CAD/Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, Electronic Engineering Technology, Geographic Information System, LAN Mangement, Parks and Natural Resources, Telecommunication Technology.
  • Must have satisfactorily completed prerequisite course work with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Students new to Kirkwood meeting minimum requirements may be asked to submit high school and college transcripts.
  • Must be citizens of the United States, nationals of the United States, aliens admitted as refugees, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
  • Must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrate financial need as determined by the U.S. Department of Education for need-based federal financial aid. Students who do not meet the need-based criteria are still eligible for a $1,000 award.

  • Must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrate financial need as determined by the U.S. Department of Education for need-based federal financial aid.

Sunny Story Paraeducator Scholarship
Amount: Up to $350 per semester

  • Must be a paraeducator working in a school district.
  • Must demonstrate a desire to obtain the Iowa State Paraeducator Certification.
  • Must have successfully completed at least one required certification course through Kirkwood or hold and wish to renew an Iowa State Paraeducator Certification.

 

Ted and Lillian Feder Endowed Scholarship
Amount: Varies per year

  • Must maintain at least eight semester hours, including at least one course in a subject other than music or theatre (need not be pursuing an A.A. degree with career interest in music or theatre to apply). 
  • Must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Must actively contribute to the music and/or performing arts program, including enrollment in ensembles and/or productions.
