COMPANY OVERVIEW

Since its founding in 1966, Kirkwood Community College has grown to national and international prominence while focusing on student, business and wider community needs in east central Iowa. The main campus is located near the geographical center of its seven-county service area, on the south side of Cedar Rapids. Teaching and service facilities cover more than 600 acres. In addition, Kirkwood operates 11 community-based centers throughout the seven counties, providing close-to-home classes, guidance and outreach programs. The college is committed to identifying community needs, providing accessible, quality education and training and promoting opportunities for lifelong learning. Operating with a budget of about $144 million, Kirkwood employs about 740 full-time faculty and staff and about 700 part-time staff and adjunct faculty. The college serves about 15,000 students in credit classes, with many thousands more people of all ages taking workshops, classes and seminars through Kirkwood Continuing Education programs.

The college offers a total of 126 credit programs in a wide variety of areas. Students are awarded two-year associate degrees as well as diploma and certificate programs suited to a wide spectrum of training and education needs. Each year thousands of students transfer their Kirkwood hours and degrees to hundreds of four-year colleges and universities in Iowa and beyond. The college offers extensive programs in High School Completion, GED, English Language Acquisition, International Education, Learning Services and Distance Learning. Kirkwood also offers comprehensive business training services through its Kirkwood Training and Outreach Services (KTOS) Center in Marion.

With more than 1,200 community college systems in the U.S., Kirkwood has been listed among the Top 30 in the nation for the past several years, in terms of associate degrees conferred per year. Kirkwood is a member of the prestigious League for Innovation in the Community College and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges.
