Scheduled Down-time

Technology Services will be taking most of the mission critical servers down this coming Sunday (1/20) from 6a.m. until 2p.m. This is necessary to replace 2 failed battery's on one of our Storage arrays. We will also take advantage of this downtime to perform maintenance on some of our other servers. The major systems that will be down during this window are:

  • R18live and R18test
  • eLearning
  • kccwdata (file server)
  • Groupwise Post Office #2
  • WinPS2 (Print Server)
  • ePop

Approximately 20 other ancillary servers will also be down at this time.

Microsoft Office 2007 Documents

Update: As of October 21, 2007 this issue has been fixed. However, any Office 2007 documents that were loaded into CE6 prior to this date will still have the error below.

Issue: Documents saved with Office 2007 extensions (docx, xlsx, pptx, etc...) downloaded from CE6 using Internet Explorer will be saved as zip files.

Recommendation: Save all Office 2007 documents as the older Office 2003 format for use in CE6. To save down to an older version, click the Office button and point to "Save As." Choose the Word 97-2003 Document option. When this is not possible due to course requirements, see possible solutions below.

Solutions:

  1. Download and use the Firefox browser. Firefox is a free download from http://www.mozilla.com/.

    OR

  2. After downloading and saving the Office 2007 file, rename the file with its appropriate extension. To rename a file, right-click on the file and select "rename" from the menu. Delete the ".zip" and replace with ".docx" for a Word 2007 file. When you change a file's extension, Windows will warn you that the file may become unusable -- click Yes when you see this warning.

Once the file is renamed, you can open it as normal.
