College Reading is a developmental reading comprehension course designed to teach college-level reading skills using the latest computer technology and reading instruction. College Reading is for students who score in the 01-70 percentile range on the COMPASS Reading Placement test; for students who wish to increase their reading score for admission to a program; or for any student who wishes to improve college level reading skills. Students earn three credits and receive a letter grade, which is computed in the overall GPA. College Reading credits count towards credits needed for financial aid if the student is eligible for financial aid. |
College Reading Skills Tutor Software
| Skills Tutor contains instruction in Vocabulary Building (i.e. Greek word elements, Latin roots, prefixes, suffixes), Word Knowledge (i.e. homonyms, synonyms, antonyms, idioms), and Reading Comprehension (i.e. main idea, cause/effect, predicting, similes, metaphors). At the beginning of each unit, the student completes a diagnostic pre-test, and based on those results, the program automatically selects the necessary lessons to be delivered. At the end of each unit, the student completes a unit post-test. Audio narration is available for those students who wish to use this feature. |
College Reading Internet Option
| College Reading is also offered as an Anytime/Anywhere Internet course. Students install the LearningPlus software program on a computer and then email the instructor their data files, which are then imported into the management system so the instructor can track student progress. Students need access to a computer at home or work and an Internet e-mail account. For more information on this option contact: |
