123 Iowa Hall
I have worked for the State of Iowa since 1972 as a counselor with Vocational Rehabilitation. I have held a wide variety of service positions specializing in providing Vocational Rehabilitation services to psychiatric patients in the Mount Pleasant State Mental Health Institute as well as working with Worker's Compensation clients in a medical clinic. I have obtained my BS degree from Coe College in 1970, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972 with a MA degree majoring in Vocational Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Counseling. In 1980, I graduated from the University of Iowa with an Ed. S. Degree specializing in Vocational Counseling. However, most of my knowledge comes from working on a well drilling rig as well as labor jobs and factory work. I have been assigned to work at Kirkwood Community College since January 2001 and have been privileged to work with students with disabilities within the college Student Development Office. Favorite Quote: When John F. Kennedy was a candidate for his first public office his opponent charged that he was a "rich kid that had never worked a day in his life". At a union rally an old manufacturing worker asked him if this was true, to which he replied "that while he had been in the military it was true that he had never held a job outside the Navy". To which the old factory worker replied "let me tell you young fellah, I have worked all my life and you ain't missed nothing".
