To be eligible for 48 contact hours of faculty renewal credit for full-time faculty or a stipend of $400 for adjunct faculty, program faculty should complete the following CASTLE activities listed below. The CASTLE program credit rubric clarifys these expectations.
1. CREOLE Angel Internet Course *
Project faculty should complete the first two online Angel CREOLE (Creating Optimum Learning Environments) modules:
-
Module 1: Applying Learning Research to Create Optimum Learning Environments: Chapters 1-4, 12 Reflect/Discuss forum postings.
-
Module 2: Applying Motivation Research to Create Optimum Learning Environments: Chapters 1-6, 19 Reflect/Discuss forum postings.
Note: Modules 3 and 4 are optional (Please contact Rich Edwards rich.edwards@kirkwood.edu if interested in these modules):
* Dr. Patricia Hardre, CASTLE project consultant and facilitator for the CREOLE course, will verify faculty who complete this requirement.
2. Preparation for and participation in monthly seminar discussions, project team meetings, and consulting sessions with project consultants. *
-
Study of the CASTLE textbook, Classroom Research: Implementing the Scholarship of Teaching, Cross and Steadman.
-
Attendance at least one face-to-face seminar discussion per month to discuss CASTLE case studies (focused on the CASTLE case study critical questions), textbook readings, and CASTLE resource notebook readings.
-
Attendance at scheduled individual, small group, or project team meetings and consulting sessions with project consultants (FtoF, conference call, and/or via email).
* Rich Edwards, CASTLE project manager, will verify faculty who complete this requirement.
3. Completion of a written CASTLE Case Study Report for publication on the CASTLE web site. *
The case study is based on the following CASTLE classroom research critical questions:
-
What are the critical teaching/learning issues in your classroom?
-
What teaching/learning strategies might be helpful to address these issues?
-
What learning & motivation theories might support or inform these teaching/learning strategies?
-
What hypotheses do these issues raise that might be further investigated in a classroom research project?
-
What classroom assessment data could be collected to test these hypotheses?
Case studies could be developed and implemented in one semester, but typically case study development will be conducted during fall semester with implementation targeted for spring semester; however, in some instances, case study development may take two semesters with implementation in a third semester. Case studies should not take longer than three semesters.
Note: Starting in 2006 professional renewal activities, including CASTLE classroom research projects, must be completed within a two-year time frame from when they are started to receive credit. CASTLE marks the start of activity when the faculty person is first registered in CREOLE.
* Rich Edwards, CASTLE project manager, will verify faculty who complete this requirement.
Faculty Professional Renewal Committee Notification and Adjunct Compensation
