KCCK-FM staff member, Bob Stewart, was named Programmer of the Year at the annual JazzWeek Awards. The Music and Program Director of the Kirkwood based full-time jazz radio station has earned this award twice in the past five years.

The ceremony was held June 21 at the JazzWeek Summit in Rochester, New York. Awards were presented in 14 categories to radio stations and programmers in three market-size groups. They are chosen based on the votes from readers of JazzWeek and participants in JazzWeek's Jazz Programmers' Mailing List.

KCCK-FM Station Manager Dennis Green says, “Stewart received this award in 2004 as well and for him to be recognized again shows the measure of respect KCCK holds in this industry. We are a leader.”

Stewart adds, “I am very honored to received this coast-to-coast recognition. I believe we are a unique station, attracting a variety of listeners, which makes us stand out.”

Other recipients of the fifth annual awards include Eric Jackson of WGBH, Boston, and Brad Stone of KSJS, San Jose. The award categories are based on population served by each jazz station.

In 2004 KCCK also won Small Market Station of the Year honors from JazzWeek.

The JazzWeek Summit is held annually by JazzWeek (http://www.jazzweek.com), which publishes the national airplay chart for jazz radio, based on measured airplay data provided by Mediaguide.

KCCK (88.3 FM, 106.9 FM in Johnson County, plus HD digital radio) is a listener-supported public radio station, a part of the community outreach of Kirkwood Community College.
