Horse Science Technology

The Horse Science Technology program prepares students for a variety of positions in the equine industry. More than 50 percent of instruction takes place in a laboratory setting using the wide variety of horses owned by Kirkwood. Advanced students can train their own horses, or horses can be sponsored if a student does not own one.

The first year focuses on experiencing the equine industry. Studies include general health care, horsemanship, facility maintenance and mechanics.

The second year allows a student to choose a course of study in equine training or equine business management. All students will take courses in conformation, lameness, genetics and breeding management.
