Academic Prep (SDV-084) is a 1-credit course offered through the Learning Services Department. Taking the Academic Prep course can assist the student who has taken the COMPASS placement test and found they are a few points away from making the minimum cut-off score for their major.*

This is a computer-based instruction and can be started at any time of the year. It is offered on an open-entry, open-exit basis so students can begin the work soon after registering. In Academic Prep, an individual plan of study is customized for each student and when the objectives of the plan are met, the student will retake the COMPASS test. Since the instruction is computer based, students can work at their own pace, from their own computer.

Students who want more information about Academic Prep should contact the Learning Services main office in 2063 Cedar Hall, or phone 319-398-5574. The student will be directed to meet with an instructor or advisor within the Learning Services department to determine if this course will meet the needs of the student. Learning Services department staff will register the student for this class if it is deemed appropriate.

*Some career programs at Kirkwood have designated minimum COMPASS scores for students to be admitted to that program; the program coordinator for each career program can tell you what minimum scores are required.
